Christopher McNaughton

Commercial Workplace Investigations and Litigation Support

Christopher McNaughton is the Managing Director of SECMON1 and ShadowSight. SECMON1 specialises in helping corporate organisations, government departments, and law firms to detect, investigate, and respond to fraud, insider risk, data leakage, workplace misconduct, and digital threats — protecting their most sensitive information and delivering forensic results that withstand the highest levels of legal scrutiny.

BACKGROUND, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

With over four decades of distinguished experience spanning law enforcement, digital forensics, and corporate investigations, Christopher is one of Australia’s most experienced practitioners in his field. His career began with Victoria Police in 1984, where he served for over two decades as a Detective across Major Crime, Sexual Offences, and the E-Crime Squad — one of Victoria Police’s most technically demanding and sensitive units, where he served as a Senior Forensic Examiner. This foundation gave Christopher rare dual expertise: the investigative instincts of a career detective and the technical depth of a forensic specialist, developed at the coalface of some of Victoria’s most complex criminal matters.

In 2007, Christopher joined General Electric, rising to Senior Director of Global Forensics, Investigations and Insider Threat — directing forensic analysis, eDiscovery, and enterprise risk management across GE’s multinational operations. He brings that combination of law enforcement rigour and global corporate experience to SECMON1, which he founded to serve organisations across Australia navigating fraud, insider risk, data leakage, complex litigation, and sensitive information governance. Christopher is a Certified Digital Forensic Examiner, holds an Australian Government Negative Vetting 1 (NV1) security clearance, and is a licensed Private Investigator across Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland, and the ACT. He has been awarded both the Australian National Police Medal for Service and the Victoria Police Ethical Standards Medal. His academic qualifications include a Graduate Certificate in Electronic Crime Investigation from the University of Melbourne, a Graduate Certificate in Computer Crime Investigation from Holmesglen Institute, and forensic computing studies at the Royal Military College of Science (UK).
