Carrum Downs is a young and growing suburb of Melbourne. It sits between beautiful bayside beaches and the bushlands and wineries of the Mornington Peninsula and is part of the vibrant and multicultural City of Frankston.

Carrum Downs has a growing population – in 2024 its residents total just over 23,000, a figure that is forecast to grow to 25,500 by 2041. The growth is primarily from new households – particularly young families. It’s a youthful suburb, with a higher proportion of under 18s and a lower number of over 60s than the Australian average. The largest age group is 25-34 year olds.

The biggest sources of employment are the health and care sector (driven in part for the need for childcare), construction and manufacturing. Carrum Downs is home to a number of production businesses, including engineering companies, manufacture of construction materials, and food processing.
